The Tennessee Higher Education County Profiles is a set of data that the Tennessee Higher Education Commission publishes yearly. The data highlights higher education statistics for each county in Tennessee. Their team approached us with the need for a more efficient process to create the profiles for all 95 counties. They informed us that they gather the data for each county on an Excel spreadsheet, and it gave me the idea of using InDesign’s variable data feature to create the profiles as a data-merged file. Since the profiles would also include data that would need graphs for visuals, I used Illustrator to make those separately. We started with creating a template for the commission's team to finalize before we moved forward with the data merge of the higher education statistics of each county. Once we received the final data set, I created a modified Excel file that had data tags that would match accordingly with the template. The commission's team then placed all of the profiles on their website. The latest version is available for review here.
